OM Legends Game — Papin, Boli, Deschamps

Olympique de Marseille is France’s only Champions League winner — and the club’s legends carry that 1993 night against AC Milan into every era. Jean-Pierre Papin’s Ballon d’Or years. Basile Boli’s winning header in Munich. Didier Deschamps lifting the trophy as captain. Drogba’s brilliant brief stint. The Skoblar 44-goal season that still hasn’t been broken in Ligue 1. On Vikto, you draft them against another fan and find out whose OM squad really wins.

Pick your team. Bid blind. Build the squad the Vélodrome would chant for.

The OM icons

Vikto’s Icon designation honors OM legends who transcended the club itself — players who would make any all-time French football XI, not just an OM one. Icons receive the bigger ×1.15 era and venue multipliers instead of ×1.10, plus gold visual treatment in every match.

OM’s Icons:

  • Jean-Pierre Papin — 95 — Ballon d’Or 1991 as an OM player. 182 goals in 279 games. The greatest OM attacker of all time. JPP. Still the gold standard for clinical finishing in French football.
  • Didier Deschamps — 92 — Captain of the 1993 Champions League winning side. 3x Ligue 1 winner. Born leader who later won the World Cup as both player and France manager. The defining OM midfielder of the modern era.

Vote for next Icon

The Icon designation belongs to the community. Anyone can vote, anonymously, on which OM legend deserves promotion to Icon status — and the gold treatment that comes with it.

Should Basile Boli get Icon status for his 1993 winning header? Should Skoblar’s still-unbroken Ligue 1 scoring record finally be recognized? Should Drogba’s brilliant short stint be elevated despite its brevity? The community decides.

How the game works

Pick Marseille and a position — attackers, midfielders or defenders. Six legends are drawn at random from that one twelve-card pool, so every card in the match shares a position. You’ll see all six names up front, but their scores stay hidden until each card comes up for bid. You and your opponent each start with $250M to spend across the six.

Bids are blind. You can’t see your opponent’s offer until you’ve both locked in, and the higher bid takes the legend. The minimum is $1M and passing isn’t allowed. Spend wisely — the card you overpay for in round one is the budget you don’t have when Jean-Pierre Papin appears in round four. And the moment you own three cards, every remaining legend is handed to your opponent for nothing.

Then you each name a captain, worth +10% on that card, and three duels resolve the match: both squads ranked by score, best against best, second against second, third against third. Every match is also set in a decade and at a venue, and a legend who fits either scores 10% more — 15% if they’re an Icon. That’s how a 91-rated Abedi Pelé plays as a 120 and beats a 95-rated Jean-Pierre Papin caught out of era. Win two duels of three and the match is yours; the total across your three cards decides nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Drogba in OM only, not Chelsea?

Vikto rosters reflect where each legend made their most defining mark at a club we cover. Drogba’s brief but brilliant 19-goal-in-35-game season at OM is honored, but his Chelsea legend years would be added if we cover Chelsea in future.

Where’s Pape Gueye?

Pape Gueye is a recent player whose career is still being shaped. Vikto adds active players to club rosters once their contribution at the club has built a defining body of work.

Why are Cantona and Lizarazu in OM rather than other clubs?

Cantona had two seasons at OM, won two Ligue 1 titles, and his attacking play left a clear mark. Lizarazu joined OM at the end of his career. Both are part of OM’s history, even if known for other clubs.

Is the 1993 Champions League team well-represented?

Yes. Boli, Deschamps, Sauzée, Stojković, Desailly, Di Meco, Pelé, Völler, Boksić, Mozer — all in the roster. You can build a true 1993 Munich starting XI across matches.

Can I play OM vs PSG (Le Classique)?

Not yet. Both players draft from the same club pool, so an OM match is OM against OM. A Le Classique format is on the roadmap, not in the game today.
